Van power & solar
At White River Overland, one of the things we love most about our job is staying up to date with technology, and the tech around van power systems is truly amazing. Whether you want to keep it simple or need to run higher-demand appliances, we will utilize the best solutions to create an efficient power system tailored to your needs.
Full Power Solutions for Off-Grid Van Living
We have extensive experience architecting and implementing 12V and 48V power systems utilizing AGM and Lithium. It all starts by sizing your electric needs to ensure you have power for your fridge, lights, and devices, as well as any crucial infrastructure like water pumps and vent fans. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. We will talk openly and realistically about what you need to stay powered.
Our off-grid van power systems often include a combination of charging profiles, including DC to DC charging, shore power, and solar power. We use reliable components that are curated for optimal performance. While the technology behind the systems may be advanced, they are intuitive to use.
Van Solar Panels
For new custom vans, solar panels can be installed on the roof. Hood-mounted solar panels are an easy way to upgrade existing solar panels or provide additional power to systems, and portable solar panels that stow away can be used to charge battery banks while you are parked in the shade.
The solar systems on our vans typically range from 180W to 270W. It’s important to understand that you can’t rely on solar panels alone. We will be transparent when explaining the capabilities and incorporate other solutions, such as shore power or alternator charging, to ensure you always have power when you need it.
Battery Installation and Upgrades
The 48V SAGA System
We are proud to offer the 48V SAGA Power System. It is a significant upgrade from the standard 12V systems long used in vans. The 48V system has additional on-board computing and sensors so is able to deliver high voltage power with less current and less resistance.
What does this mean for your van? When incorporated with a separate alternator, you will achieve faster recharge rates with less heat and resistance throughout your power system. It means your van can handle more high-power devices at once without the need for expensive wiring. It also offers benefits like faster charging and smaller components—important when space is at a premium. And, since the 48V Saga system is scalable to 9.6kW, it's built for the future.
We Go Beyond Electrical Compliance
Electrical and fire safety is no joke. Our team is fully licensed and certified to ensure your van’s electrical system is compliant with regulations for wiring, fusing, circuits, earthing, and shore power hookups. We also integrate emergency cut-off systems, separate water and electrical components, and use only high-quality parts with a proven track record of safety and durability.
